Enefit's new web map shows where high-speed internet is available

Enefit has developed a new web-based map application that provides an overview of all addresses where it is possible to connect to a high-speed fibre optic internet network. The new tool helps both individuals and businesses quickly assess whether it is possible to connect to one of Estonia's most modern communication networks at their location.

‘In Estonia, high-quality internet connection should not depend on whether you live in the city or in the countryside. Our goal is to ensure that modern digital infrastructure is also accessible outside major cities,’ said Mait Rahi, Project Manager for Communications Solutions at Enefit.

The map shows the entire connection infrastructure

The new tool brings together information about both the network built by Enefit and nationally supported construction areas. Users can use the map to:

  • check whether their address has a connection option;
  • estimate the distance to the nearest network point;
  • see which operators are active in the area;
  • find out whether signing a contract with a service provider is sufficient to connect to new developments;
  • make a price enquiry if the property is located up to 500 metres from an existing or planned network.

Future-proof infrastructure for the whole of Estonia

Fibre optic internet connection enables ultra-fast data transfer and is important not only for home offices and distance learning, but also for business, e-health and security. The stability of the connection and its ability to cope with growing data volumes make it a future-proof solution.

‘Fast internet is increasingly becoming a basic utility, just like electricity or water,’ Rahi noted. ‘If we want people to be able to live and work outside major centres, high-quality internet connectivity is key, creating the basis for a smart living environment, strong local businesses and modern education.’

The new map is publicly available and intended for use by both individuals and businesses who want to plan their connectivity options consciously. The map can be viewed at www.enefit.ee/en/era/kiireinternet.
