Rise in fossil fuel-based electricity generation led to high electricity prices in February

Electricity prices in February were nearly 65% higher than in January, reaching 151.8 euros per megawatt-hour (15.2 cents per kilowatt-hour). Compared to February 2024, prices were nearly twice as high, up by 101%. The higher prices were due to the increased use of fossil fuels across the Baltics (in both oil shale and gas plants), exceptionally low wind production, higher consumption due to cold weather and transmission capacity limitations.

Health trail visitors will soon be able to charge their electric car batteries while out in nature

At the end of 2024, Enefit and Estonian Health Trails Foundation launched a joint co-operation project ‘Charge two batteries at once’ under which electric car chargers will be installed in the car parks of the most popular health trails. The aim of the project is to promote outdoor activity and make health trails more accessible to electric car drivers.

Eesti Energia ended the year in profit despite uncompetitive oil shale electricity

Electricity sales, renewable energy production, network service provision and liquid fuels production delivered strong results for Eesti Energia last year. In 2024, the group’s normalised EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) totalled €400 million, while normalised net profit, excluding the impact of asset write-downs, reached €186 million.
