Card payments are now available at Enefit Volt public electric vehicle chargers
Enefit has expanded the payment options at its public chargers: electric vehicle drivers can now conveniently pay for charging using a bank card. The new card payment solution is already in use at more than 120 chargers across Estonia, and new terminals are being added every month.
Although card payment terminals were installed on some Enefit chargers as early as 2024, the payment option only became fully operational at the end of March this year. The solution was completed later due to the technical complexity of the payment systems and the need to ensure secure and seamless integration with the existing charging platforms.
‘The addition of card payments is an important step towards making charging more accessible and convenient, especially for those who use chargers less frequently and prefer not to use a mobile app or RFID card,’ said Jaanus Riiner, Business Development Manager at Enefit Volt. ‘According to statistics, the vast majority of users still prefer to charge via the mobile app or an RFID card. At the same time, the option to pay by card is being used more frequently by customers,’ he added.
All newer Enefit fast chargers are equipped with card payment functionality. Unfortunately, older chargers – particularly first-generation models – do not support the addition of a payment terminal. Therefore, the availability of card payment may vary between chargers.
Enefit continues to invest in providing a more convenient and user-friendly charging experience. Card payment functionality is already a standard feature in new charger installations, and work is underway to expand the solution to existing devices where possible.
