Enefit and Olerex expand their joint electric vehicle charging network
Enefit and Olerex are expanding their extensive cooperation in developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure. In the next phase of the cooperation, Enefit will install an additional 57 electric vehicle chargers at Olerex service stations, with capacities ranging from 47 to 300 kilowatts. The payment systems of the two service providers will also be integrated.
‘The number of electric cars in Estonia is growing rapidly and the development of a high-quality charging network must keep pace with this growth. Together with Olerex, we are bringing even more powerful and reliable charging solutions to locations that people already visit and pass through as part of their daily routines,’ said Robert Kutsar, Head of E-Mobility Business Development at Enefit.
Among fuel retailers, Olerex has been the largest partner of the state enterprise in developing the electric vehicle charging network since 2014 when 17 chargers were installed at Olerex stations as part of the ELMO project. In the next phase of the cooperation, the focus will be on installing powerful fast chargers at Olerex service stations located at key points across the country, bringing charging services closer to customers throughout Estonia.
‘Fast chargers are becoming as commonplace at Olerex stations as coffee machines. At Olerex, we offer our customers a comprehensive and convenient service, regardless of the type of vehicle they drive. Given that the home market of Olerex includes the entire Baltic region, it is also important to our customers that the chargers at Olerex service stations are part of the pan-Baltic charging network of Enefit,’ said Antti Moppel, Member of the Supervisory Board of Olerex.
The user experience of an electric car will soon be no different from that of a combustion engine car
As part of the cooperation, starting a charging session at Enefit charging stations will become more flexible than ever because, in addition to the Enefit charging app or charging card, customers will also be able to start charging via the Olerex mobile app. Furthermore, all new chargers are equipped with card payment terminals, which means that customers will not need to create an account in the app to charge.
Innovation: ultra-fast charging with battery storage
The cooperation between the two companies will also introduce innovative solutions to charging infrastructure. Enefit will install an ultra-fast charger equipped with a battery storage system at the Põltsamaa Olerex service station located at the Puhu crossroad.
‘Using battery storage integrated into the charger helps optimise energy consumption and reduce peak loads on the electricity network. This makes it possible for customers to benefit from fast charging at a lower price than before. In addition, customers will still be able to charge their vehicles even during power outages,’ Kutsar explained the new solution.
A charger equipped with a battery storage system enables ultra-fast charging at the tariff for slow charging (up to 100 kW).
Nationwide coverage and CHAdeMO support
As part of the cooperation, Enefit electric vehicle chargers will be installed at most Olerex service stations across Estonia. This means additional charging options in all 15 Estonian counties, from Kärdla to Räpina.
Enefit will also continue to support the CHAdeMO charging standard across its charging network, ensuring charging options for owners of older electric vehicles as well. The aim of the cooperation is to ensure that there is at least one CHAdeMO charging point in every county in Estonia.
Enefit is a company within the Eesti Energia Group that, from 2026, brings together all areas of the electricity business: retail, renewable energy generation, energy trading and portfolio management, and development. The electricity company serves more than half a million retail customers in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland and has nearly 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy generation capacity, making it one of the largest renewable energy producers in the Baltics. In addition, the company operates and develops one of the largest public electric vehicle charging networks in the Baltics, comprising more than 1,500 charging points.
Olerex is the leading fuel company in Estonia and part of the Aqua Marina group of companies, importing, storing and distributing more than 30% of all vehicle fuel consumed in Estonia. Olerex owns one of the most modern fuel terminals in the Baltic states, located at the Port of Tallinn, and has more than 100 service stations across Estonia. In Latvia, the Olerex petrol station chain comprises 50 stations under the KOOL and LN brands, and in Lithuania, five stations in Olerex colours. Olerex is the only fuel company in the Baltics based on domestic capital whose chain of petrol stations covers all three Baltic states. The companies of the Aqua Marina Group are also involved in the import, storage and sale of autogas, motor oils and lubricants, as well as the production and sale of AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid. The Aqua Marina group of companies is the largest taxpayer in Estonia.
